How Do You Change the Background Color in Apple Pages
Even while Apple Pages provides users with the option to modify the background of a page, doing so is not quite as simple as starting a new document and selecting a color or gradient from the color picker. At this time, you can only modify the background of a page that uses Page Layout or Master Page.

Step 1: Convert your document to a Page Layout
If you are going to begin with a simple blank page, you will have to first convert it into a document using page layout. To create a new document in Pages, select the Document button located in the top right corner of the window. If you remove the checkmark from the box labeled “Document Body,” you will be prompted with a message asking you to confirm that you wish to change the document into a Page Layout document. Click the Convert button. -
Step 2: Click the Format Button
Click the Format button that is located in the upper right corner of the Pages window in order to enter the formatting sidebar. This will allow you to alter the background of your Pages document to a color or gradient when you are ready. To change the background, go to the section under Background, click the box at the top of the section, and then choose the kind of background you want, such as Color Fill or Gradient Fill. You also have the option of selecting an image to serve as the background of your page. -
Step 3: Change the Color
Depending on the one you select, you will see a distinct set of options from which you can select colors and modify the settings for the gradient. The document will automatically adapt to reflect the changes you make to it when you select options.
