If you are able to conduct an exit interview where both you and the employee are able to share knowledge with one another in a professional manner, then it will help make sure that your relationship with the employee will end on a good note. So, here are the steps that will help you conduct exit interviews  that you and your company can benefit from:

1. Prepare the questions you are going to ask

While you do not want your questions to seem scripted, all of them will have to touch on a couple of key elements that will give you the information that you need. Once you have been able to come up with all of the necessary questions, you then have to make sure that you ask the same questions throughout all of the other exit interviews that you are going to conduct. This way, you can easily compare the results of every exit interview and see if there are any common responses. You may also see interview letter templates.

2. Questions that you should not ask

Since you know the questions that you should ask, you should also learn about the questions that you should not ask. You have to make sure that you avoid those questions that will prevent any harassment or discrimination cases against your company. Exit interviews should focus on the company, and the information you gather should be helpful, constructive feedback that you can use to move the company, employees, and processes forward. 3. Process employee feedback

Just about every exit interview you conduct should provide you with information that can help you find ways to improve your company. If the employer allows it, then you can share all the key points of the exit interview with his or her direct supervisor or with someone of similar status in your company whenever it is relevant. Look for patterns in the feedback from the existing employees to see if there are any issues in your company that could have led to the employee’s departure. If you want, you can write down all your notes of all the exit interviews you have conducted in a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel so that you are able to go through them all and compare them to see if there are any similar responses. If you do notice that there a ton of similar comments which all state the same problem within the company, then you will have to take it to the leadership team and suggest some actions that can be taken so that you will stop losing employees.
