Art is the application of human creative skill and imagination in a visual form such as painting, sketching, etc, fabricating works to be valued for their impact on people. An art lesson plan helps a creative arts teacher as s/he teaches different grades and each has a different way to perceive art.

6 Easy Steps to Create an Art Lesson Plan

Step 1: Create an Excel Sheet

Create a spreadsheet. At the top, write down the class dates from the first to last day of the month/week. On the left side of the spreadsheet, list- goals and objectives, materials used, procedure, accommodations and evaluation. If you cannot make a spreadsheet, write it in numbered points so that it would be easier for you to understand.

Step 2: Goals Objectives

Determine the goals that you want your art class students to reach. You’ll want to determine goals for that particular day or unit as well as long-term goals like things you want to accomplish by the end of the school year. Always be prepared for substitution art classes by creating an informative and organized lesson plan using an art lesson plan template.

Step 3: Materials

List out what materials are needed for your art class. If this is an art class that focuses on painting, your resources could be paintbrush, easel, a cup of water, canvas etc. List every possible item you would need for the particular lesson and try to make the class as much fun as possible than it usually can be.

Step 4: Procedure

Write a detailed step-by-step outline of how you want to execute the lesson. The steps are for the teacher and will include how you will gain the students’ attention to begin the lesson, whether you will give an example of the lesson, how will you make the class interesting, etc. Engage your students in thoughts, dialogues and creative expressions around topics you give. Allow them to put their minds on paper and try to be as positive as you can about each of their creative pieces.

Step 5: Other Arrangements

An extra section should also be added in your lesson plan for an art class. These arrangements may be made for those students whose skill levels exceed most of the class and also for those students whose skill levels are a bit slower than the other students. This way, both will be given equal opportunities to show their creativity.

Step 6: Evaluation

This should be done at the end of the class. You can evaluate how your lesson plan worked or what you would change in future classes. Observe the students during the lesson and see what interests them. Note what art lessons they understand and excel at and the ones they do not. All of these evaluations will help adjust your lesson plan accordingly for further classes.
