51+ Sales Resume Examples

Salespeople serve as the bridge between customer needs and the products or services that fulfill that need. Oftentimes, salespeople deal with familiar prospects who have an existing awareness of the company through marketing and advertising efforts, and it is the job of the salesperson to close the deal by introducing further information and helping the customer make those connections. The personal, interactive nature of selling makes it a key factor in the company’s efforts to build long-term relationships with customers. Do not underestimate the personal connection between two people, and the potential effect this can have on your company’s reputation.

Sales play a key role in building the loyalty and trust between the customers and the business. Trust and loyalty are the main reasons why a customer would choose to stay in your company as well as recommend your company to a friend or family member, or even write a great review of your products or services online.

What Makes a Salesperson a Salesperson?

A salesperson is an individual who sells goods and services to people, companies, and other kinds of entities. The success of a salesperson is usually measured by the quantity of sales they are able to achieve in a given duration and how good that salesperson is able to entice individuals and companies to avail to their products and services.

If a salesperson is employed by a company, in some cases the compensation may be either decreased or increased based on the amount of goods and services sold, and these companies may hold a specific quota that the salesperson is required to reach.

The Many Types of Salespeople

Manufacturers’ Salespeople

These are appointed directly by the producers, and their function is to sell goods and services to wholesalers, retailers, and the consumers. There are also three types of manufacturers’ salespeople, namely:

  • Pioneer Salespeople. They give information to consumers about new goods and services. Their role becomes important to introduce new products in the market, and to create demand for new products.
  • Merchandising Salespeople. These are highly skilled sellers who are tasked at selling special types of goods such as medicines, scientific equipment, and electronic goods.
  • Dealer Servicing Salespeople. They establish an open communication with distributors, wholesalers, and dealers to receive purchase orders for the manufacturers.

Wholesalers’ Salespeople

Appointed by wholesalers, these salespeople function in helping the wholesalers supply needs of retailers by keeping regular contact with them. They usually go to retailers’ shops, check their stocks, collect purchase orders, make delivery arrangements, and more.

Retailers’ Salespeople

These are appointed by retailers for the purpose of providing assistance in distribution and sales of goods and services. They find prospective clients, contact them, help them in the selection of goods, and deliver their orders.

What Makes a Good Salesperson a Good Salesperson?

  • A good salesperson listens more than they speak, and they understand the customer’s needs before finding a solution. Good salespeople always ask their clients what they want to be done, how and why they want it done. By listening to your clients more than talking, you can better accommodate what they are really looking for.
  • A good salesperson invests their time on things and people who positively affect their income and avoid those who have no return. A profitable salesperson knows how to spend time on activities that benefits their business. Never waste your time on activities that can not produce anything now or in future negotiations.
  • A good salesperson is always seeking new, better, and faster ways to increase their sales. Just as any person and professional, we should always be concerned about our time. Good salespeople consistently work on improving themselves, their strategies, and are constantly looking for faster and easier ways to close deals.
  • A good salesperson doesn’t see failed negotiations as failures but as investments. If you are not able to close a business deal with a client, it should not be taken as a source of discouragement. Some attempts pay while some also don’t, just think of it as an learning experience and an opportunity for the future.
  • A good salesperson invests in their education, development, career, personal motivation, and their customers. This career is all about investment. To become successful, you need to commit to a continued learning process on your career, and continue to develop yourself as a better person. If you take care of your career, business, and customers, then success and profit will come to you.

What Is a Resume? (If You’re Living under a Rock)

A resume is a document used by a job applicant to present their background and skills to an employer. Aside from the purpose of getting employed, it can also be used for a variety of reasons. A common resume contains an applicant’s biographical information and a summary of their education and relevant job experience.

Along with a cover or application letter, the resume is usually one of the first documents submitted when applying for a job, and it is used by a potential employer to screen applicants. The resume is similar to the curriculum vitae, which is used for employment purposes in Europe, but is shorter because CVs are more detailed regarding the applicant’s achievements and experiences.

How to Write a Resume for a Salesperson?

Your Personal Information

One of the most essential parts of the resume, make sure that your personal information can be easily located. By most standards, it is located on the first section of the first page. This should contain your name, complete home address, and some contact details.

Include your phone number, email address, and any relevant social networking pages or sites that you are most comfortable in sharing just for the company to be able to reach you conveniently.

Objectives

Many hiring managers look for this section to quickly filter out applicants. If an objective section lacks information or, at times, too precise of an objective, a hiring manager who has a desk piled up with resumes may simply throw your resume in the garbage bin.

A resume objective is a statement of your goals for employment, typically listed at the top of your resume. A resume objective is often one or two sentences long, and it should be concise, clear and targeted to the position you are interested in.

Relevant Work Experience

A good sales resume highlights the relevant work experience that qualifies you for the position you are applying. If you have had numerous sales jobs in the past, include only those that are most relevant to the position you are applying for. If you have gaps in your resume’s time-frame, expect that the employer will ask you to discuss about that during the interview.

Awards, Training, and Certifications

If you have won awards or honors for your sales performance, make sure those are highlighted on your resume. If you have lots of them, you may even want to list them right upfront in your resume introduction. Awards are proof positive of your skills and talents.

Include training or certifications. Many companies want their salespeople to know a particular sales approach and others want to invest in developing their staff. If you already have the training, that can make you very appealing over another applicants who still need to learn.
