A coordinator, also called a facilitator, is an individual who, during meetings or discussions, helps a group of people work together, understand their shared goals, and prepare how to achieve these goals. The coordinator stays "neutral" in doing so, meaning they do not take a clear role in the conversation.
In other words, a coordinator is someone who enables for more productive work in groups and organizations and to cooperate and create synergy. They are the entities that can advocate equal, transparent, and inclusive processes to accomplish the group's work by not taking sides or presenting or promoting a point of view during the meeting. Their role is to support all members to do their best thinking and practice. The authority of a coordinator is divided into three alternates. First, tutelary authority, which is based on the credentials, competencies, and skills of the tutor. Next is political authority, which includes the practice of decision-making with regard to learning goals, initiatives, processes, tools, and evaluation. Last but not least is charismatic authority, which includes influence through appearance, style, and manner. It manifests especially through the dimensions of emotion, conflict, and valuation.
