How to Make a Manufacturing Flowchart in Apple Pages
As explained by Chron (a business-oriented resource), the effective simplicity of flowcharts makes them highly versatile to use, incorporated in all sorts of different industries. And manufacturing work is no exception to this, be it an automobile production line or a glass fabrication company.
Apple Pages is a well-suited application for creating this chart. If you’d like to know how to fully utilize its features, then consider reading our tips down below.
1. Prepare the Foundation for Your Manufacturing Flowchart
First off, there’s a slight change needed for your document’s formatting.
Go ahead and open a new file in Apple Pages. On the window’s right side, open the Document menu in the side toolbar before turning off Document Body. Then, confirm switching to a layout document in the pop-up.
2. Create a Matching Title in Your Manufacturing Flowchart
When giving your chart a title, take advantage of Pages’ text box function.
Click the Text icon in the upper toolbar, then click-drag across a spot at the top of your document page. To enter your title, simply highlight the new text box and type away. For the title’s contents, go with something similar to “Machine Shop Procedure” or “Cotton Processing Workflow.”
3. Implementing Shapes in Your Manufacturing Flowchart
In a flowchart, there are typically a few simple yet effective symbols. The first one is the oval, which represents the start and end of a workflow.
Next are actions, shown as rectangles. In a manufacturing flowchart, an action can mean things like sales forecasting or labor outsourcing. Then there are inputs and outputs, both represented by parallelograms. Inputs and outputs refer to important items or data in a process, such as raw materials and order receipts. Lastly, there are decisions, represented by the diamond and branching into separate paths.
Insert these symbols by picking them from the Shape menu. Like with the text box, select a shape and start typing to label it.
4. Connect Your Manufacturing Flowchart’s Shapes
Lines are crucial when it comes to portraying the directional flow between steps.
Select two adjacent shapes with CMD+click before going to Insert > Line. Next, from the menu, choose one of the Connection Lines. Your two shapes now have a self-adjusting line between them.
