All Saints’ Day has been honored on numerous days around the world, and its exact origins are unknown. According to Ephraem Syrus, the Eastern Church celebrated a feast of all martyrs on May 13. This may have influenced Pope Boniface IV’s decision to dedicate the Pantheon in Rome as a church in honor of the Blessed Virgin and all martyrs on May 13 in 609. Pope Gregory III dedicated a chapel in St. Peter’s, Rome, on November 1 in honor of all saints, providing the first evidence for the festival’s November 1 start date and for its expansion to include all saints in addition to all martyrs.

All Saints’ Day is also known as the Feast of All Saints, Hallowmas, or All Hallows’ Day in the Christian Church. It is a day designated to honor all saints who have attained heaven, both known and unknown. This religious event is observed every November 1st in the Western Church.
