What Is a Printable ID Card?

An identification (ID) Card, also called an identity card, is a distinguishing proof used by an individual to show evidence of his or her person. An ID Card has a lot of uses, which includes, but not limited to, academic registration, employment, business negotiations, citizenship, travel purposes, military enlistment, and so on. A printable ID card is an editable ID card where you could choose a blank or a ready-made one which can be printed personally.

How To Make a Printable ID Card?

An ID Card needs to be presentable and authentic for it to be valid. To make a printable ID card, you need your design, specifics, and these few guidelines:

1. Objectives

Multi-purpose IDs are the trend nowadays. If you want to save monetary costs, it would be better to plan long-term. Are you a business owner and wanted to make staff identification cards that have double functions of attendance and entry access? Is the student ID suitable for one purpose only and you want it to work with everything else with just a swipe? Can it be used for medical emergency and hospitalization? You should think about it carefully to avoid mistakes when you start making it.

2. Layout and Concept

ID Cards come in different size and different layouts, but most of the time, they are just about the same size as a credit card. Aside from finding the right size, you should see an appropriate color scheme. An IDs design should complement the purpose. For example, a college student's ID has more vibrant colors, while a professional ID may have just one color and a lot of white spaces in between. If you are unsure as to how to design your ID, consider hiring a professional graphic designer. They can help you make IDs, especially in terms of mass production. But if you want to try making your own, there are a lot of ready-made templates available online and those which are editable and only needs you to fill them up.

3. Identity Data

An ID should contain the necessary specifics for proper identification purposes. Name, address, title, student or employee ID number, birthday, social security number, emergency contact, or sometimes identifying marks should be in your card. Emphasize the name on the ID but write on a different font size the job title of the person, i.e., doctor, pharmacist, photographer, manager, secretary, and so on, slightly smaller. A school ID can be made using the same format as well. Make sure to write an accurate description for every individual. It would be more convenient for people to recognize who is who and whom they could approach where they could address their concerns.

4. Signatures and Codes

Most times, an organic signature work better than the computerized ones. That is because some signatures done online could be distorted or significantly differs from the handwritten ones. If it is possible, write the signatures in pen. But, there are useful materials right now that can transmit a signature straight to PC. Highlight the signature by putting it in front of the card. If you want to make your cards distinctive and secure, you can put codes. You can apply a QR code, a barcode, foil stamping, micro text or magnetic stripes to secure you from any fraud when you use it in other transactions.

5. Print

Finish up by printing your ID using a printer that can produce the best result.
