What is an Itinerary?
When you think of the word "itinerary" what usually comes into mind would usually be vacations or business trips. What it does is that it helps organize one's travels by listing down everything from the destinations that are to be visited, to the means of transportation used to move between them. So if you're planning on going anywhere for and you want to schedule every event that should take place, then be sure to have a proper itinerary.
How to Make an Itinerary in MS Word
1. Figure Out Your Travel Timeframe
You should know the exact day that you'll be leaving for your trip to the day that it is over. It is very important that the dates of your means of transportation to and from your destination are fixed. That way, you will have an idea as to how much time you have to work with to plan out everything that you need to do and everywhere that you need to go before the end of your trip. This applies to whether you are making a business or wedding itinerary.
2. Make a List of What You Want or Have to Do
This is very helpful so that you'll know what it is that you are going to be placing in your itinerary document. If you're making on specifically for a business trip, then be sure to list down everything that you are supposed to do before including any personal agendas. If it's for a vacation, then consider all of the things that you want to do and think about which ones will fit into the timeframe.
3. Create the Tables
Since you will be using Microsoft Word to make your printable itinerary, you should start with a blank document and then proceed to insert a table. You can then choose the method of how you want to put it into the document. Go with the one that you think will suit your itinerary best. Be sure to do this as it's where you'll be placing all the information on your trip.
4. Gather All the Necessary Information
You should record everything from check-in times, confirmation numbers, hotel names, travel schedules, and any other information you might need to make sure that your trip goes as smoothly as possible. Be sure to gather all of the necessary documents that you need that may have exactly what you need to place in your itinerary.
5. Organize Everything Into Your Itinerary
Now that you have everything you need, then next is to put it all into the document template or file. It is best that you create different sections that contain different pieces of information to keep your itinerary from looking like a cluttered mess. For example, one column contains the time in which you need to travel to and from certain areas while another displays the names of each location.
6. Make a Hard Copy
Once you are done making your trip itinerary, you simply need to save it in a folder within your computer or device that you can access at any time. However, it's best that you also print out a hard copy as it never hurts to have a physical backup. Simply open the file with Microsoft Word, click on the print option, choose the number of copies you need and click on the print button once you're done.
