What is a Schedule?

A schedule is a written guide of the activities, objectives, and appointments that we should in the future. They should clearly convey all the tasks at hand that need to be accomplished within a specific period of time. Since all of us are busy people, especially if you're working as a professional, work schedules should be a part of our daily routines.

How to Create a Schedule?

Whether you're making a daily, weekly, or monthly schedule for your personal routines or for work such as an employee schedule, shift schedule, and production schedule, the basic fundamentals are the same. The one thing that's for certain when creating schedules is that you're allocating time for every task, objective, and appointment at hand. To help you with that, we will show you a few steps in creating schedules.

1. List Down All the Tasks at Hand

You can't start a schedule without identifying first the tasks you need to do in a specific period of time. List them down in chronological order so that it'll be a lot easier when you're allocating time for each of them. You can do this with the use of a planner. 2. Create a Table

Using a table for your sample schedule makes it look more organized. The table should contain at least three columns. The first column should contain the allocated time. The second column should contain the name of the task and its brief description. The third column should contain the notes concerning each task.

3. Write a Brief Description about Each Task

To give yourself an overview or a refresher about the task, write a brief yet informative description about it on the second column of your table, just below the task's name. Two sentences should suffice for this. This is most important for teachers who are making a regular class schedule. 4. Allocate Time for Each Task

When doing this, make sure to assess each task regarding how long will it take to accomplish, especially if it requires you to travel from one place to another. The travel time should be part of the task's allocated time schedule. Another thing to put into consideration is that labor-intensive tasks are about 2-3 times more time-consuming than desk/office tasks.

5. Don't Forget your Vacant Time

We human beings are not machines that can work non-stop. We need to allocate a break time from our daily tasks. Studies suggest that a 30 minute or 1-hour break is enough to let our minds unwind a bit from the pressures of work. Another study also suggests that people who have this overkill workaholic mentality have a 9% chance of having clinical depression, and a 34% chance of having anxiety.

6. Add Some Notes if Needed

In each task, there might be some important notes that you might need to keep in mind to make the task a successful one. Studies show that the average adult forgets about 3–4 things per day. Since you have multiple tasks in a day, it's advisable to write them down on the third column of your table, just beside the descriptions.
