Article 1: Purpose

  • Helmet Law: Legislation mandating the use of helmets by motorcycle operators and passengers while riding.

  • Eye Protection: Safety gear designed to shield the eyes from debris, wind, and other hazards while riding.

  • Reflective Gear: High-visibility clothing or accessories designed to increase the visibility of riders, especially during low-light conditions.

Article 3: Helmet Requirements

3.1. Mandatory Helmet Use: All motorcycle operators and passengers are required to wear a Department of Transportation (DOT) approved helmet while riding on public roads within Los Angeles County, California.

3.2. Helmet Specifications: Helmets worn by motorcycle riders and passengers must meet or exceed the safety standards established by the DOT, as indicated by the DOT certification label affixed to the helmet.

3.3. Exceptions: Certain exemptions to the helmet requirement may be granted for individuals participating in authorized motorcycle events or activities where helmet use is not feasible, subject to approval by the California Department of Transportation.

Article 4: Eye Protection

4.1. Requirement: Motorcycle operators and passengers must wear approved eye protection, such as goggles or a face shield while riding on public roads to prevent eye injuries from debris, wind, and insects.

5.3. Recommendations: While not mandatory, the use of reflective gear is strongly recommended to improve safety and reduce the risk of accidents involving motorcycles.

Article 6: Enforcement

6.1. Compliance Inspections: Law enforcement agencies within Los Angeles County, California, are authorized to conduct inspections to ensure motorcycle riders and passengers comply with safety equipment requirements outlined in these Bylaws.
