Free Goals and Anti-Goals
This workspace is structured as a guided framework that helps teams define what they are working toward and what they intentionally want to avoid, creating clarity before a project begins. It begins with a VMware Tanzu Labs introduction panel that explains the purpose of the session and orients participants to the board. The first main frame, Goals and Anti-Goals, provides an overview of why identifying both is essential, emphasizing that shared clarity reduces distractions and misalignment later in the process. It defines goals as desired outcomes tied to business, product, and learning impact, while anti-goals represent future scenarios the team does not want to move toward because they drain time, resources, or purpose. The next section, Define Goals, offers three empty columns labeled Business, Product, and Learning, where participants add sticky notes representing success criteria from each perspective. Directly below is a floating instruction bar that clarifies timing, facilitation steps, and expectations so the activity runs smoothly. The following frame, Define Anti-Goals, contains open space for the team to identify risks, distractions, or paths that look productive but would ultimately lead the team away from its mission. This builds alignment not just on what to pursue, but what to consciously reject. After both exercises, a Feedback section allows participants to score the session and offer quick input, reinforcing iterative improvement. A final Parking Lot area captures out-of-scope thoughts, ensuring ideas are saved without interrupting the process. The layout is clean, linear, and clearly labeled, supporting both live workshops and async collaboration.
