How to Make a Small Business Organizational Chart in Apple Pages
From a mom-and-pop restaurant to education establishments, employee organization is key to an independent business’s success. Due to this, an organizational chart is valuable in setting up a proper hierarchical structure.
After all, as explained by Investopedia (a business-oriented resource), organizational charts are suitable for depicting a group’s worker hierarchy no matter what size it may be. 1. Prepare a Suitable Layout for Your Organizational Chart
Apple Pages makes it so that creating an organizational chart is intuitive. However, to make that possible, setting up a few basic things is required beforehand.
After opening a new file in Pages, access the Document menu in the side toolbar. With that menu open, switch to a layout document by turning off the Document Body option and confirming in the prompt.
2. Write a Proper Title in Your Chart Document
It’s advisable that you include a fairly informative name for your chart. This is where Pages’ text box feature comes in handy.
In the above toolbar, click the Text button and then set down the text box at the top of your document. Click the new object to highlight it, followed by entering a title that describes the type of diagram you’re making. If you’re not sure what to write down, consider going with something like “Food Catering Kitchen Staff” or “Fashion Store Financial Department.”
3. Assemble Your Organizational Chart Using Shapes
In all organizational charts, shapes are a typical aspect of making them. Insert shapes into your own chart design by using the Shape menu.
While in the Shape menu, pick the rectangle or oval and then place the shape in your desired spot. For the first shape, start with the person holding the highest position (such as a branch manager or a department supervisor). Type in that person’s name and title before proceeding down the chain of command with other members.
4. Add Lines to Create Links between Staff Members
As you insert and edit more shapes, include complimentary lines that direct the hierarchical flow. This is done with the help of the Insert menu (on top).
Select two adjacent shapes at once by CMD+clicking them. After that, go to Insert > Line and choose either the Curve Connection Line or Elbow Connection Line. Once you’ve picked an option, the highlighted shapes are given a self-adjusting line that links them together.
