  • Step 1. Open the Password-Protected Excel Files

    Launch Microsoft Excel and open the password-protected sheet you want to unlock.

    In the Trust Center Settings window, select “Protected View” from the left-hand menu.

  • Step 6. Disable ‘Protected View’ for Excel Files

    Uncheck the box next to “Enable Protected View for files originating from the Internet” and “Enable Protected View for files located in potentially unsafe locations”. Then, click “OK” to save the changes.

  • Step 7. Close Excel and Reopen the File

    Close Excel completely and then reopen the password-protected spreadsheet. Once the file is open, navigate to the “File” tab again, click “Save As,” and choose a new location to save the file without password protection.  Confirm that the password protection has been removed by closing and reopening the file. You should now be able to access and modify the spreadsheet freely.
