It happens from time to time in any industry and business partnership. You will have to trust someone to carry out some function, allowing for the fact that, sometimes, accidents happen. A release of liability form will allow you to excuse them from shouldering any blame or any costs for damages. In another scenario, you may require participants to sign documents stating that you have nothing to do with any injury they get from participating in an activity that you are hosting.
You can create this release form from an Excel Form Template. But first, you should know the legal details to include. This list of free PDF liability forms will show you what those are.

What Is a Release of Liability?
A release of liability form (also called a waiver or Liability Waiver Form) is a legal document that is signed between two entities. In this form, one party agrees to “release” the other from any blame or legal risk that might arise from some necessary action on their part, per the agreement contract for some other service.
You will need this form to protect others, as well as to protect yourself.
When Will You Need a Liability Release Form?
In almost every scenario where you sense a real risk of being sued for damages. This is most obvious when you are hosting an event or a trip or running a sports activity center. But it will also include any scenario where sensitive tasks and confidential material is being handled.
- See Free Release of Liability Form Template for an example involving mailing service and important documents.
Two other scenarios we provide for:
- Medical Release of Liability. Used for events and other programs involving minors. Parents will release the event organizers from being sued; at the same time it will allow the organizers to provide timely medical help.
- Notice of Transfer and Release of Liability. Used when transferring vehicle rights to a new owner and clearing yourself of all responsibilities over the vehicle.
The rest will deal with other general, self-evident scenarios. Unless you have a sizable amount in your Budget Form to pay for legal issues, you want to tread carefully and have a liability release form handy.
Note that liability release forms are not going to help you if investigations uncover that the damages were a result of preventable negligence on your part.
