Veterans Day is celebrated every year on the same date which is November 11. It was on June 1, 1954, that the 34th President of the United States Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the legislation proclaiming November 11 as a day to honor all American military veterans.

The first observation of Veterans Day was in 1919. Back then it was known as Armistice Day as proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson. During this time, Armistice Day was celebrated to honor the memory of those who died in the Great War (World War I) and contributed to the victory. Fast forward to 1954, former US President Eisenhower approved the legislation aiming to change Armistice Day to Veterans Day. He stated that Veterans Day is a day to honor all the veterans who served in World War I, World War II, Korean War, and other international conflicts. In 1971, Veterans Day’s date of observance was changed to the fourth Monday of October which veteran groups and the general public protested. So in 1975, former President Ford approved the legislation to revert the holiday’s date of observance to November 11.
