Step 1: Determine the School’s Current Situation
If you are planning for healthy development, you need a good understanding of the existing school practices and its outcomes. This is the starting point for any development effort and acts as the base against which a school’s development efforts are evaluated. Step 4: Calculate and Monitor the Results

A school development plan can be termed as a means, not an end but a means of enhancing the quality of the educational experience of the students in the school. And this is done through the successful management of the transformation and changes. The process of this plan is minutely focused on the education requirements and achievements of the students and also on the professional development and empowerment of the teachers.
Importance of a School Development Plan
Schools must have a clear sense of direction properly expressed in vision and mission statements along with the aims and objectives as well as an effective strategic plan. The school development plan helps the school in many ways:
- It helps in providing a sense of direction to the school so that it determines where it wants to see itself in the future.
- It helps in establishing aims and priorities for the school based on which the school will implement their plan.
- It helps in identifying the requirements that need to be done to bring the developments in the school.
- It also helps in identifying the needs of the staff of the school that is important to the plan as well.
- It helps in monitoring the effectiveness of the process of teaching and learning and also the teacher-student relationship.
- It helps in evaluating the success of the changes that are made and implements all these changes to the planning cycle.
Conclusion
The school’s SDP is generally considered as a means of implementing certain changes. But, one must keep mind that these changes that take place in a school must also support the preservation of what has been working well in that school. It must provide a way of dealing with new developments coming in the way effectively to ensure school development where all the stakeholders make decisions and engage in planning templates their educational future.
