Working in emergency departments (EDs) is inherently stressful, and stress induced by occurrences like witnessed death, abuse of the elderly or children, and aggression and violence can have deep impacts on employees. That is why a solid debriefing is required to address these problems. Because of a lot of hazardous risks involved in this industry, an emergency requires Incident Debriefing. For better mitigation programs, incident report templates are available digitally.

7 Steps to Make Incident Debrief

Step 1: Asses the Incident

As respondents present themselves and share their original statements, the leader makes his or her assessment. The leader should receive data such as the time and participation of the individual in the event. As the debate expands, each participant’s leader is better prepared to create a precise evaluation.

Step 2: Identify Safety Measures

When any sudden tragedy or loss strikes, safety and security goes out of the mind. Understanding the perceived feeling of safety and security of an individual is collected from group debate, facilitated by prompting and questions from the leader.

Step 3: Predict the Aftermath

Participants are also backed by the awareness of possible responses that may surface as the days, weeks and even months continue. This may include emotional responses, physical symptoms, and shifts in psychology. This enables the survivor of the trauma to plan for the future and prevent further stressful occurrences.

Step 4: Bring Closure

The next step is to help in the reconstruction process. Critical incident stress debriefing is not intended to be the main treatment of the survivor. It is therefore important that group participants are educated on the resources available to them in their community.

Step 5: Tailor for Individual Reader

As a leader, you need to make sure that all your subordinates receive adequate debriefing sessions on any kind of mishap. You have to tailor your sessions according to every individual, as every individual experiences differently. Their reactions are varied and their thinking also differs from each other.

Step 7: Use Template

The simplest way to ensure that you created an effective incident debrief is by using a customized template for your team. Often, it’s difficult to understand what to include in a debrief copy, that’s where templates come into use. You can be efficient in handling your team if you take time to sit and create debrief sessions tailored individually for every member.
