I am writing this letter to explain the reason why I have become delinquent on the mortgage. I have done everything that I can to make ends meet but unfortunately, I was not able to gather the necessary amount to pay my mortgage and I would like you to consider the circumstances of my family and to modify our loan. I would really appreciate it if you would give me the opportunity to keep our home.

The reason why I have become delinquent on the mortgage is that my spouse lost [HIS/HER] job and because of that, the income is not nearly enough to sustain the needs of the family. I believe that this is only temporary and our situation right now is getting better because my spouse was able to find a part-time job and I feel that a loan modification would benefit us both. I would very much appreciate it if you can allow lowering the amount owed so we would be able to keep the mortgaged property. I do hope that you will consider this.
