How to Prepare a Lesson Study [6+ Templates to Download]

The most effective problem-solving approach is a lesson study. It is a type of homeroom scrutiny where all the teachers of a single class sit together, discuss results, plan of actions, etc. of how to run their classes effectively. They can also include their lesson plan as a part of the lesson study.

7 Steps to Prepare a Lesson Study:

Step 1: Form a Group

The team or group you form should have all the faculty teaching a single class in it. It might consist of 6-7 teachers or more. This will give each of you a deep insight as to what is happening in class for each subject being taught and how are the students understanding, accepting and listening to each class. Each and every teacher must give a report as to how their subject is going and what is the end result of his/her subject classes.

Step 2: Develop Teaching Goals

All the teachers come to an understanding of what they should be teaching the students and what they want the students to know. This makes the teacher implement different types of teaching methods that can make the class more understandable to the students, hence resulting in good results from the students. Making easy and tough goals respectively for different subjects will result in students working hard to achieve their results and not be lazy to do so.

Step 3: Make an Outline of the Lesson

The group makes a detailed outline of a lesson plan to successfully achieve all their teaching and learning goals in the classroom. This can be done by creating a proper study schedule. It helps them understand which topic to finish when and how long would it take to finish it.

Step 4: Plan the Lesson Study

It would be best if the group creates a proper lesson study for everyone teaching the class to follow so that their subjects are taught in a way that instructs the way a student thinks. For the betterment of their students’ education, having case studies for certain classes always helps to create more deep thinking in the students’ minds. This helps them think about how to instruct the students critical and analytical thinking.

Step 5: Teaching and Observing

Just like a demo class, where one of the teachers from the group teaches the class, the others might observe and note down the behaviour of the students in the classroom. This will play a very effective role in understanding the student’s better. It will also help draw a conclusion on how much they have understood from the class and what are the other ways one might need help to understand the concepts better. Lesson plans for such classes are very useful, as they help the teacher to create one or more ways to keep the class engaged.

Step 6: Examine and Correct

After careful examination of the results from the above step, the group sets steps and ways to correct and make the student learning process better. It includes coming through challenges thrown to them as they are teachers and have a lot of them to get past. This helps in checking students progress towards better learning and how they are improving themselves, without and with the help of teachers.

Step 7: Distribute your Work

Once you are done with all the above-mentioned steps, you can share your work with the rest of the teachers and faculty so that they can also create a lesson study with the help of one successful one easily. It would really help the rest of your colleagues. It would help them understand their students better and this would make the study environment better for all those concerned. Taking a blank lesson plan and turning it into a lesson study helps teachers complete lessons on time and with the best positive effect on the students.
