What Not to Include in Your Resume

Keep in mind that your resume makes a statement about you. It is also circulated and disseminated to a lot of prospective employers. Also, resume writing varies from country to country. You also have to consider the legal and cultural aspects of writing your printable resume. Ensure that the following points below are not included in your resume.

  • Personal information. This refers to sensitive personal information.  For reasons of protection and security purposes, just to ensure to write points that are not sensitive or always take time to check out the preferred format of employers in your country.
  • Unrelated work experiences. You are not required to enumerate every job you have held on your resume. Generally, you only want to include positions you have held for the past 10 to 15 years unless it will leave gaps in your resume.
  • Salary history. This is a big no in the process of writing your resume. It is sensitive and confidential. This is something that you can discuss with your employer privately but should not be attached to your resume.
  • Negative ideas and statements. Avoid stating your frustrations in your resume. Focus on what you’ve done or are in the process of achieving. Be positive and professional. For instance, rather than stating that you have “limited work experiences,” you provide examples of your previous work experiences.

Indeed, it is not enough that you know what are included in a resume but also the sections and points that you should avoid. These are just some sensitive, confidential, and unprofessional points that you should avoid.
