Free Basic Cleaning Checklist

General Areas:

• Dust and wipe down surfaces, including countertops, tables, and shelves.

• Vacuum or sweep and mop floors as needed.

• Clean and disinfect frequently-touched surfaces like doorknobs and light switches.

• Empty and clean trash bins.

Bedroom:

• Change and launder bed linens regularly.

• Dust and clean bedroom furniture, including nightstands and dressers.

• Vacuum carpets and rugs.

• Air out the room by opening windows when possible.

Living Room:

• Dust all surface areas, including shelves and décor

• Vacuum carpets and rugs

• Wipe down electronics, including remote controls

• Clean windows and mirrors

• Empty trash bins and replace bags

• Tidy couch cushions and blankets

• Remove cobwebs from corners

• Make sure all light fixtures are dust-free and fully functional

• Dust and polish furniture

Kitchen:

• Clean and sanitize countertops and sink

• Wipe down cabinets and drawers

• Empty and clean refrigerator

• Thoroughly clean oven and stovetop

• Empty and clean the dishwasher

• Sweep and mop the floor

• Empty trash bin and replace bag

• Dust and clean light fixtures

Bathroom:

• Clean and sanitize all surfaces

• Scrub toilet, including bowl, lid, seat, and base

• Clean shower and/or bathtub

• Clean mirrors

• Empty trash bin and replace bag

• Refill soap dispensers and check toilet paper

• Replace towels

• Empty and wash wastebaskets

Windows and Window Coverings:

• Clean windows and window sills.

• Dust and clean blinds or curtains.

• Ensure that curtains and drapes are laundered regularly.

Floors:

• Vacuum carpets and rugs thoroughly.

• Sweep and mop hard floors, paying attention to corners and edges.

• Clean baseboards periodically.

Special Areas:

• Clean and organize closets, donating or discarding items no longer needed.

• Wipe down and disinfect frequently-touched surfaces in home office areas.

• Dust and clean any specialized equipment or furniture.

Outdoor Areas:

• Sweep and clean entryways and porches.

• Trim bushes and plants around the exterior of the home.

• Wipe down outdoor furniture.

• Dispose of any outdoor debris or trash.

Additional Reminders:
