Job Role & Summary

A Construction Manager Civil plans, direct, coordinate, or budget, usually through subordinate supervisory personnel, activities concerned with the construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems. He/she must participate in the conceptual development of a construction project and oversee its organization, scheduling, and implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule the project in logical steps and budget time required to meet deadlines.
  • Determine labor requirements and dispatch workers to construction sites.
  • Inspect and review projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes and other regulations.
  • Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to administrative staff, workers, and clients, representing the owner or developer.
  • Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Obtain all necessary permits and licenses.
  • Direct and supervise workers.
  • Study job specifications to determine appropriate construction methods.
  • Prepare and submit budget estimates and progress and cost tracking reports.
  • Take actions to deal with the results of delays, bad weather, or emergencies at the construction site.
  • Investigate damage, accidents, or delays at construction sites, to ensure that proper procedures are being carried out.
  • Evaluate construction methods and determine the cost-effectiveness of plans, using computers.

Skills

  • Has good knowledge of construction management processes.
  • Possess strong computer skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) working knowledge of project management software.
  • Displays professionalism and a strong work ethic.
  • Is competent in conflict and crisis management.
  • Displays good time-management skills.
  • Has the ability to multi-task.
  • Displays strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Has solid numerical and analytical skills.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a 4-year construction-related degree program at an accredited college/university.
  • Must have completed 2 years in Construction Management.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in construction management and project management.
  • Experience with construction management software packages.
  • Must have knowledge of design/drawings, specifications, submittals, and other construction documents.
