When it comes to sweatshirts and basically all kinds of clothing, manufacturers produce different sizes in order to accommodate a broad range of customers and consumers. Understanding these sizes and their specific purposes can help you determine the right mock-up design for your hoodie or sweatshirt.

Sweatshirt Sizes Standard

Small – 26″ by 20″

In the market, there are standard retail sizes and measurements for clothing and apparel, and that includes sweatshirts and hoodies. For slim and small body types or build, a standard Small size sweatshirt has dimensions of 26 inches in length and 20 inches in width.

Medium – 27″ by 22″

After small, the next size is medium. The length of a medium-sized hoodie or sweatshirt typically measures 27 inches with a width of around 22 inches. However, the exact dimensions may vary slightly from sweatshirt to sweatshirt—like between a men’s and women’s hoodie, for instance.

Large – 28″ by 24″

For bigger physiques or stockier body types, a large size is appropriate. The standard measurements of a large hoodie or sweatshirt are 28 inches in length and 24 inches in width.

Extra Large – 29″ by 26″

Even bigger than the large size is extra large which allows more room for people with fuller or heavier builds. For a typical commercial sweatshirt or hoodie, an extra large size has standard dimensions of 29 inches for its length and 26 inches for the width.

Sweatshirt Sizes for Digital

If you are planning to outsource the design of your sweatshirt or hoodie and have it digitally printed, then you need to know the appropriate size before giving your supplier the green light. The sweatshirt design itself would come in different sizes, depending on individual needs and tastes. But as a general rule, the standard dimensions for a full-sized front size image for sweatshirts (and most shirts) is 11 × 11 inches for adults and 9 × 9 inches for youth sizes. For left chest logos, which are popular sweatshirts, the usual size for the design is 4.5 × 4.5 inches or lower.

Sweatshirt Sizes for Print

Small

A typical small-sized hoodie or sweatshirt measures 66 cm in length and 51 cm in width. In the standardized clothing apparel chart, small size is normally a size 2-4 in the US and a size 6-8 in the UK.

Medium

The medium size sweatshirt has a standard dimension of 69 cm × 56 cm, or it is equivalent to a size 6-8 in US garment measurements and sizes 10-12 in UK standards.

Large

A large-sized hoodie or sweatshirt normally measures 71 cm in length and 61 cm in width. In the US, sizes 10 through 12 falls under this category and for the UK, a large size generally means sizes 14 to 16.

Extra Large

For a sweatshirt or hoodie that is extra large in size, the universally recognized measurement is 74 cm in length and 66 cm in width. An extra large size equivalent in US size terms is 14; while in the UK, it is usually a size 18.

2XL

A 2XL hoodie or sweatshirt has a standard measurement of 76 cm in length and 71 cm in width. In the UK, a 2XL usually means a size 20 and in the US, it is the equivalent of a size 16 sweatshirt.

Sweatshirt Sizes for Business

Even if they are considered casual wear, sweatshirts make great team uniforms and corporate giveaways. You can even place a bulk order for sweatshirts for your whole office or department. Different individuals will obviously have different sizes and the availability of the size will depend on your chosen supplier as well. As a rule of thumb, a small sweatshirt size is 26 × 20 inches, a medium size measures 27 × 22 inches, a large has dimensions of 28 × 24 inches, a standard extra large sweatshirt is 29 × 26 inches and 2XL is usually 30 × 28 inches.

Sweatshirt Sizes for Adobe Photoshop

If you prefer to design your own sweatshirt at home, there are a number of available tools you can use. One such tool is Photoshop. It is one of the most popular and widely-used applications for graphic design. Whatever design you choose, it is recommended to set the resolution to 300 pixels per inch. This is to ensure that the image or graphics will have good quality and resolution once it’s printed. As for the dimensions, you can set the initial measurement to 14 inches for the width and 17 inches for the height, although you can always adjust this as needed.

Sweatshirt Sizes for Adobe Illustrator

Aside from Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator is another commonly used application for designing all kinds of graphics, including sweatshirt and hoodie designs. In your document set up in Illustrator, you can start by setting the unit to inches and inputting 14 inches for the width and 16 to 17 inches for the height. As for the resolution, set it to 300 pixels per inch to ensure good quality and clear design.
