I am writing to sincerely apologize for having disclosed a sensitive and confidential information regarding the [CONTRACT NAME] that the company entered into with [COMPANY NAME] last [DATE]. 

As you probably are already aware of, I have unintentionally disclosed to a competing company, our client company’s customer list which was considered confidential information in the above-mentioned contract. I was preparing a commercial invoice together with its attachments for the said competing company and I could only surmise that I must have unintentionally included a printed supplier’s list in the attachments. 

To mitigate, if not to totally avoid, the possibility of any suit for damages against our company, I have formally informed the competing company of the mistake, of the confidentiality of the information, and for them to avoid using such information in any way.  I have received an email correspondence from the said company and they have guaranteed to comply with the request. 

I am very sorry for the trouble and inconvenience that this incident may have caused. I promise that I will be more careful in handling future paperwork. I will review every page of all documents before sending them. I will not let you and the company down again.
