10+ Implementation Plan Templates – DOC, PDF

It is easy to get swept in excitement if there is an event that is coming on the horizon. In a corporate setting, this event might be just a simple office party, a company retreat, or rolling a new product to the public. It could also be a massive overhaul of how a company operates. Though, these events could lead to a lot of disappointment if not done properly, especially with the last one. This is why planning and strategizing is a very crucial step before doing anything for an event.

Yes, a flood of ideas might open the gates of the mind on what to do, however, all these ideas would be nothing if one does not organize them properly. No matter how good something might sound, it will easily crumble without proper foundation. You may also see sample project implementations.

The opposite can also be true. One might have the best plan in the world. One might have already finished organizing his thoughts, creating the perfect plan in the process. A problem might come in the implementation of said plan. There must be something to bridge the gap between action and plan to ensure a successful event. Well, if you marry the concepts of “action” and “plan” you get an Implementation strategy. You may also see project implementation plans.

An implementation strategy or an implementation plan is a detailed listing of everything that is needed to fulfill the strategy. This could include but not limited to the activities, costs, expected problems, emergency situations, contingencies and schedules that involve the plan. To put it simply, an implementation strategy is a kind of strategy for the implementation of another strategy.

What is an Implementation Strategy

An implementation strategy is a method of bringing the main strategy to life. An implementation strategy should detail the method by which each aspect of the main strategy is to be accomplished. Let’s take a new product rollout as a sample. When a company aims to introduce a new product to the market, it is not immediately sure if this new product will be positively accepted by the customers. It could potentially disastrous to the company if handled poorly. You may also see project implementations.

One of the things that they would do would be to market the product and thus they would need to devise a marketing strategy. In order to make sure that the marketing strategy would be successful they would need to plan out where to market the product, how much they would need to spend, how to promote the said product among other things. This is the implementation strategy, a detailed method on how to translate a strategy into tangible actions.

What is in an Implementation Strategy

1. Goal

This is the main reason you are devising a strategy. Everything is useless without a goal. This should be clearly defined in order to know the direction of where the strategy is going. The size of the goal is directly proportional. The bigger this is, the wider the range of your strategy. You may also see simple project plans.

2. Timeline of Achievements

These are basically mini goals or the checkpoints to your goals. They exist to keep your plan on track and on sample schedule. Set this on a reasonable timeframe as setting them too close to each other could only lead to stress and setting them too far from each other could easily spell failure to reaching the goal.

3. Resource Allocation

Resources are the blood of all projects. All progress could effectively come to a halt even if there is a lack of manpower, time or funds. Take time to understand your resources. Assign them in a manner that would prove sufficient to the cause. Make sure that the project is kept alive by ensuring that the flow of resources is sufficient and unimpeded. You may also see operational plan samples.

4. Assignments to Personnel

As stated above, manpower is a resource. It might even be the most important resource of them all. Try to play to the strengths of your people and assign them where they would shine the most. This does not mean however that the assignments you give are final. Just in case another aspect of the strategy needs more manpower, transfer manpower accordingly. You may also see best project plans.

5. Contingency Plans

Make your plan flexible. No matter how airtight your plan would be, there will always be unforeseen circumstances. This could range from calculation mistakes, unplanned failures, illness or just acts of nature that will set you back pretty far. Having a flexible plan, like having a backup plan or emergency plans could mitigate these setback in a not so frustrating way. In the best case scenario, it would be as if nothing had happened at all.

6. Define Success

By defining success, also include the definition of successes on the achievements you put on your timeline. Not only will these be your metric if you are currently following the right track, this will also define your stopping point. If this isn’t clearly defined, then there is a possibility that you would have already reached success to one milestone and still continue grinding on that said milestone. This is wasteful to your resources. Define what is successful to give you and your team limitations on different tasks. Reaching for a goal is good but blindly reaching for it is plain and utter madness. You may also see change management plan templates.

7. Know the End

In relation to defining your success, know when to end and know when to move on. There are more stuff to be done, different goals to be accomplished and they also need to be planned out. You may also see sample plans.

How to Write an Implementation Plan

Now that we know what is in an implementation plan, it is time to know how to write an implementation plan. The components that build up the implementation plan could look simple at first, but don’t forget that since this is an implementation plan, you should take a closer look and outline the intricacies of your strategic plan.

1. Introduction

Just like all kinds of introduction, this is where you put all the basic aspects of your plan. Your goals should be defined here along with your vision and your mission. Aside from the objectives, you can put your project background, the problem statement, the core members, constraints and assumptions here along with some high profile risk that your plan might encounter. You may also see plan templates in PDF.

2. Management Overview

Define the roles of your personnel here. Also, define the responsibilities of each role as to know who is doing what. Have a clear list of leaders here and state who the strategy director is. The strategy director is the head of this strategy and he will be responsible if the plan does sink or swim. You may also see free business plan templates.

3. Major Tasks

Define the important tasks that are important to the accomplishment of the strategy. This should also define the metric for successes of each task or action. Lastly define the state of each task to know if they are to be prioritized, put on hold or already finished. You may also see sales plan templates.

4. Implementation Schedule

This is the part of the implementation plan that should not be extremely detailed. In the time of devising a plan, you do not know how long each task would take. Rather than defining them in detail, create a rough schedule and predicted a timeline for each task. You may also see financial plan templates.

5. Security and Privacy

Some plans need to be done in secrecy. Define your security and privacy details here. Consider your way of communication, security issues and method of handling sensitive data here. You may also see marketing plan templates.

6. Support and Resource List

Have a directory of tools, activities, facilities and other resources needed to finish your plan. This way, it would be easy to monitor where your resources are currently in and what resources are needed in case they are lacking. You may also see budget plan samples.

7. Documentation

Other documents that are needed for the implementation plan go here. This may include your original plan and history of previously completed plans to support the approval of your proposal. You may also see business plan template samples.

8. Monitoring Performance

Located here is the metric for your success.

9. Acceptance Criteria

10. Glossary

This should list all the definition of important terms that are stated in your plan.

11. References

Specify the origin of your information. You can also state the people who are in support of your proposal.
