An organizational plan sample is different from a strategic plan and an operational plan. Here we will show you their differences. Lastly, we will tell you how to create an efficient operational objective or plan that can also be applicable in the school. We will be also showing you templates of school operational plan.

What is an Operational Plan?

An operational plan is the sub-concept or sub-part of a strategic plan. The operational plan helps teams, offices, and specific departments plan specific details on how to contribute to the achievement of the objectives and goals of the school. It usually plots the day-to-day activities of a specific area in the department that needs improvement and hopefully reach that achievement in a specific time during the day, week month or at least the year.

The sample operational plan is limited to a day to a one-year basis of activity. What it simply means that it has a specific deadline and not at all long-term. This tells your department or office what you have to achieve in the near future. I provided the necessary activities needed with full details in order to achieve a task that was part of the strategic plan.

The operational plan can modify what was said in the sample strategic plan but only if it does not change the original plan entirely. The team usually plots the deadline for their own task in their department just as long as it does not take that long that it would eventually go past the original plan during the making of the strategic plan.

Difference between an operational plan and a strategic plan

If you think that operational plan is the same as a strategic plan, well you are wrong and right. They are right because, in a way, they are similar. It is just that the strategic plan is the general planning while the operational plan is the implementation of the strategic plan in each department. In a way it can be imagined as the school heads making the sample strategic planning and the accounting department, faculty, canteen department have assigned things to do in order to achieve what was being strategized in the first place and that part is the operational plan.

In this part of the article, we will be enumerating to you more of the differences between a strategic plan and an operational plan:

1. Time

The strategic planning plots out the long-term goals of the whole school. It usually sees the end goal in three to five years. The operational plan can be completed in a span of an average of 1 year. You may also see restaurant operations plans.

2. Focus

In strategic planning, the focus is to have the overall goal finished in the long run with quality. In operational planning, the planning is department focused. This means that the goals are more specific to the department rather in the strategic planning where the goals are for the general institution. You may also see military operational plans.

3. A leader in each of the system

As mentioned earlier, the heads of the school are responsible for doing the strategic plan for the whole school. The heads assigned leaders in each department to implement their plans for that specific office or place. You may also see free plan templates.

4. Budget

The simple budget for the strategic plan comes from the strategic budget of the school while the budget for the operational plan comes from each of the department or simply the department’s budget.

One of the key’s of an operational plan is to have a clear goal and objective that everybody in each department is determined to finish and achieve. In this article, we will be teaching you how you can create an effective operational plan. You can do that by doing the S.M.A.R.T. Goals.

If you have not yet heard of that term, this article will help you understand what those acronyms in SMART mean:

This is what SMART means:

This is where your team has to decide and be specific on what do and what areas of their department they have to prioritize first in solving a problem. It is simply being clear and specific. You may also see HR operational plans.

2. M (Measurable)

This is where you would identify if how long would it take for you obtain your goal or objective. It can also mean that you have to identify when a goal or an objective is already a successful one. The team leader should relay this to his or team so that they would know and be aware of how hard they have to work and plot out everything right just to get to that objective. You may also see hospital operational plans.

3. A (Attainable)

In this part of the SMART goals is where you identify if the goal or objective your department is trying to achieve can be possible for the time being given to you or the funds that are present in your department. It is simply looking at the elements that would help in achieving a specific goal and identifying if they can do it with the resources they have or not. You may also see event operational plans.

4. R (Relevant)

The department which is assigned a task according to the strategic plan should be able to think and decide if the plan is relevant to their work. Goals in each department are assigned to them because they are important and if it is not an issue, the department can actually tell the heads of the strategic planning. You may also see marketing plan templates.

5. T (Timely)
