Create a Job Description in Google Docs – Step-by-Step Guide

You can make a simple job description using online tools such as Google Docs. And if you use a ready-made job description template, it makes the task even easier! 

Step 1: Download a Job Description Template

To start, search for and download an employee job description template. Again, you want to pick a template that meets your exact need or specifications.  

Step 2: Select Google Docs File Format

The next step is to select Google Docs as the file format. 

Step 3: Open the Template in Google Docs

Once you are done downloading the template to your computer, open the file in Google Docs. Remember that you need a Gmail or Google account in order to view and edit the document. 

Step 4:  Add a Company Name and Logo 

At the top of the page, click on the text to change the company name and contact information. You may also want to insert a company logo or image. Simply head to the Insert tab and select Image to upload your logo. 

Step 5: Begin With an Introduction

Make sure to clearly state the open position or job vacancy. You can make the text large and bold. Below the job title, provide a short but captivating introduction about the company or why the individual should apply.  

Step 6: Summarize the Job

The meat of your job description should obviously be the responsibilities and tasks that the job entails. You can list each one down in bullet points to make it more organized. The job summary itself should only be a few sentences or a single paragraph.  

Step 7: List Down the Qualifications and Skills 

Below the job summary, identify the different qualifications and skills needed for the job. As with the job responsibilities, list the skills and qualifications in bullet points and be as clear and specific as possible. 

Step 8:  Enumerate the Benefits

Some employers advertise their benefits package as part of their hiring tactics. You can likewise list down all the perks, privileges, and benefits that come with the job if it will help attract the right job applicants. 

Step 9: Conclude With Instructions 

As a closing message, provide a short invitation and call to action to stir interest and entice applicants. Do not forget to include the name and contact information of the point person in case prospective candidates want to reach out. 

Step 10: Download and Print the Job Description

If you want to print out hard copies of your job description, simply go to the File tab and select Print from the menu. You can also simply share or save the file to your computer.
