Under the umbrella of digital marketing is social media marketing, which is simply the use of social media platforms to market your business online. Like everything we associate with the Internet, the popular misconception is that social media marketing is free (it usually is) and simple (it usually isn’t). Like any business strategy, a social media strategy has to be well planned and developed well before launch. This is where the proposal comes in.

Your proposal is a document where you outline your marketing strategy to partners, clients, and investors. Don’t get stuck on this crucial step. Find a helpful Proposal Template from this list of free samples to help you get started.

How to Draft a Social Media Strategy Proposal

The first and most obvious step is that you need a strategy. This requires little elaboration—any business that decides to skate by without strategies for marketing, growth, and development isn’t going to last long.

You social media strategy proposal is going to follow closely in the format of any good Marketing Proposal Template or Sales Proposal Template. The only difference is that it will focus solely on the use of digital media to carry out your strategy.

This proposal will include these elements in some form:

  • Introduction. Briefly state the focus of your social media strategy. Here is where you state your company’s broader goals, and the general issues it aims to solve.
  • Executive summary. Give an overview of all the aspects of the marketing strategy, your objectives, and methods toward those objectives. Identify a specific issue this proposed strategy aims to solve.
  • Situation analysis. Identify past solutions, present competitors, the current studies done on the subject, etc.
  • Goals. These may be briefly mentioned in the executive summary—here, you elaborate.
  • Marketing strategy. This is your methodology, where you spell out in detail how you plan to achieve your goal. May include your technical summary of the tools you will be using as well as implementation.
  • Estimated budget. Required especially when presented to investors and others you intend to convince to help fund your project.
