6 Steps How to Make a Research Proposal
Step 1: Give an Introduction
The job plan should provide an introduction to the project before it gets into the details of the project. The introduction will demonstrate and describe the type of work being conducted, the amount and value of product or service being provided, signed contracts, etc. It generally includes the company’s mission statement and vision, as well. Bear in mind that this should be kept brief. It is essential that you don’t drag them on.
Step 2: Determine the Objectives and the Scope
The purpose and goals of the project decide the ‘why’. It answers the question of why the research is being carried out. It also determines the project’s targets. The scope of the research defines the project’s deliverables. The research project deliverables include details of what is expected to be accomplished at the project end. You also need to keep in mind to keep it simple enough to be easily understood.
Step 3: Determine Your Finances and Manpower
After you have identified the scope and goals, the next step is to decide the finances and manpower needed. Both projects require funding and investments of some kind. This segment will illustrate those criteria. The finances also include the cost to the customers you will be charging. Furthermore, this section needs to explain how much manpower you will need to execute the project.
Step 4: State the Problems and the Solutions
Once you’ve identified and clarified what you’re doing in the project and why you’re doing it and how to find the problems. Problems include all those risks, issues and concerns that you believe the project would pose as challenges. You also need to propose the necessary solutions to those problems.
Step 5: Provide a Conclusion
Wrap up the planned work with a short but solid conclusion. Once you have outlined the terms of your plan, emphasise the outstanding returns your project will produce. It is best to conclude with a call-to-action, which is sufficiently impactful to persuade the reader.
Step 6: Revise and Review
First, make a rough draft of the proposal. In this draft, you need to insert all the elements required and then check for any sort of statistical, grammatical or spelling errors. You have to make sure that no information is missing or misleading. Get another member to review the draft if required, and then make the necessary changes if any. Once you have done that, you can print it as the official document, if you are satisfied with the draft.
Elements of a Research Proposal
1: The Title Page
No matter the type of research proposal you are making, it needs to start with the title page containing the organization’s basic information. This includes information like the name, the contact details and the address along with the company logo. You can include the client’s name and contact details, too.
2: The Cover Page
This is the introduction. You cannot provide a proposal without saying who you are. Talk about the mission and vision of the company in a short phrase. You can also include the background of your organization, however, you have to remember to keep it short too. Just provide the details in a way that shows why your organization is the best.
3: The Contents Table
The third part of the format is the table of contents. In case your proposal is not that long, you do not need to provide the contents table. This table helps the reader to easily glide through your proposal. It serves as the road map of your proposal. If your proposal is created on a digital platform, provide the option to the reader to revisit any section they want to.
4: The Summary
The summary of your proposal should be able to brief the reader about the proposal. The summary tells the reader why you have made the proposal in the first place and what you hope to achieve through it. The summary should also be able to say what the organization will benefit from the proposal.
5: The Proposal
The summary is to be followed by the proposal. In this section, you need to explain the topic that you have chosen for your research proposal. In other words, you have to define what you are proposing. The proposal is generally a course of action that is suggested to be taken. If such is so with your proposal, explain why this action needs to be taken and highlight what would happen if it is taken as well as what would happen if it is not taken.
6: The Process
The proposal is supposed to provide the solution to a problem and the process determines how this solution is to be implemented. Mention and explain the procedures to be followed to ensure that the proposal reaches its intended goals and accomplishes its objectives.
7: The Conclusion
The final part of the format involves providing a conclusion. This is generally titled ‘About Us’. This is the time to brag about your organization. Sell all the pros of your company in a way that displays in front of the reader that your company is better than all the others. Include graphics, images, text and whatever other elements you think would create interest.
