# 19+ Budget Planner Templates

You have probably heard of the phrase ‘making ends meet’. That is just the literary form of saying use a budget planner. If you don’t want to run into debt or end up paying high-interest rates for something that you did not really need in the first place, it is a good idea to maintain a balance between your income and your expenditure.

## 5 Steps to Create a Budget Planner in Excel

### Step 1: Create a New File in Excel

We are going to use MS Excel for this purpose as it is the most popular. Google Sheets can do the job just as efficiently. So follow the steps as they won’t vary with the software you are using. Create a new file and write the heading budget planner. Below it, write the month for which the budget is being calculated.

### Step 2: Create a Table for the Income

Create a four-columned table for the income. The heading for the first column should be ‘Income’, that for the subsequent three should be ‘Estimate’, ‘Actual’ and ‘Difference’. Then in the first cells of the next rows, we are going to write the sources of income. You might have multiple sources of income. For each source, you need to enter the estimate and actual value and the difference between the two.

### Step 3: Details of Expenditure

Try to go in depth with the details of your expenditure. So if you run short of money by the end of the month you can take a look at this sheet and know exactly where you went wrong. Then you can make suitable adjustments in the next month. So, create a new table similar to the previous one with the only difference being that the first cell instead of being ‘Income’ should now be ‘Expenses’.

### Step 4: Balance

Once you have the data of where you spent what amount, you need to add up the total expenditure, using the sum function in excel. The next step would be to create a table for the balance. The data can be put in automatically by using the functions. Create a table like the previous one replacing ‘Expenses’ with ‘Summary’. Use functions so that the cells update their values based on the cell containing the total income and total expenditure.

### Step 5: Graph

Using charts and graphs is an intuitive way to represent data. That is why you should be using them in your planner as well. Make something simple like a bar chart that represents the total expenses and the total income as two bars. Your idea should be to make the income bar bigger and the expenses bar smaller. Try not to make them equal and definitely avoid the expenses bar getting bigger than the income one.
