Quizzes are subject to different sizes, just as there are different types of quiz formats. It is important to know and use the right document size when creating or designing a quiz.

Quiz Sizes Standard

US Letter Size

Most formal documents use standard US Letter size and quizzes are no exception. Schools and universities use this popular paper size. And whether it is multiple choice or fill-in-the-blank quiz, using a Letter size is a widely accepted practice. US Letter size has dimensions of 8.5 × 11 inches or when converted to millimeters, measures 215.9  279.4 mm.

Legal Size

Quizzes are typically short compared to other tests like midterm exams. So using a Legal size document, which measures 8.5 inches × 14 inches or 216 mm × 356 mm, is quite uncommon. However, it is not prohibited to use Legal size paper for quizzes and exams. Again, quiz formats and sizes are largely dependent on the teacher’s learning objectives, personal preferences, and needs.

A4 Size

Quite similar in dimension to the US Letter document, an A4 size document has dimensions of 8.3 × 11.7 inches or when converted to millimeters, is roughly 210 × 297 mm. A4 is also widely used in classrooms, offices, and homes so it is an ideal paper size for quizzes and surveys. From pop quizzes to personality quizzes, you can’t go wrong with an A4 size.

Quiz Sizes for Print

In the traditional sense, a quiz is a printed or even handwritten academic requirement that teachers use to measure a student’s proficiency in a particular subject. But a quiz can also be conducted outside the traditional classroom or academic setting. There are even digital quizzes and survey forms that can be created and shared online. But for printed quizzes, it is crucial to use the right format and document size. It is recommended to use either standard Letter size or A4 size, especially for academic-related quizzes. The former measures 8.5 in width and 11 inches in height while the latter measures 8.3 × 11.7 inches.

Quiz Sizes for MS Word

Microsoft Word is a word processor application that is used around the world. For teachers and academic administrators who are usually the ones tasked to create exams, Microsoft Word is easily the top choice. The default document size for Word are US Letter size (215.9 mm × 279.4 mm), Legal size (216 mm × 356 mm), and A4 size (210mm × 297 mm). Once you have chosen your preferred document size, then you can focus on the quiz questions. Note that aside from the content, always make sure to use legible font and text so it is easy for students to read.

Quiz Sizes for Apple Pages

Apple Pages, like Microsoft Word, is a popular word processor software. It is designed by Apple and generally available across all Mac devices. You can use Apple Pages to create a simple Spelling quiz or an advanced statistics quiz. With its many tools and features, Apple Pages is an excellent app that teachers and instructors can use to craft quizzes. The best paper size to use would be A4 or US Letter size, which have dimensions of  21.082 × 29.718 cm and 21.59 × 27.94 cm, respectively.

Quiz Sizes for Google Docs

These days, anything can be digitized including quizzes. Google Docs is the best option for digital documents like online and virtual quizzes. But to be able to create, download, edit, and upload files using Google Docs, you need a Google account. Then once you create your quiz, you can easily adjust the document size to your preferred settings. Plus, you can quickly share the file link and forward the quiz to your respondents. It is recommended to use the default Letter size which measures 8.5 inches × 11 inches. The equivalent dimensions of the US Letter in pixels is 2550 × 3300 px with a 300 DPI.
