5 Steps to Create a Task Checklist
Step 1: Time blocks- Are You a Fan?
The Pomodoro technique of time blocking a task for 25 minutes and taking a break is an efficient system to get work done, but does it work equally well for everyone? No. Decide whether or not you are okay with time blocking your tasks. If you feel too much constraint to do so, don’t do it, but if you feel you could get more done with time blocks go ahead.
Step 2: Always Prioritize
Whether or not you use the time blocking method, the prioritizing part is a must. This will help you get rid of tasks that will require a big chunk of time and effort and you will be able to get them done first. While you are using the checklist either designate a prioritizing system for tasks or use color to mark the important ones out.
Step 3: Divide Into Small Chunks of a Task
Procrastinators are everywhere but that shouldn’t stop you from climbing the ladder. Divide each task into small sections and time block each section if necessary. Check the deadline and decide accordingly to minimize the effort and get the work done before the deadline.
Step 4: Daily, Weekly or Monthly?
Monthly task lists are only okay for extremely important dates like meetings, exams, seminars, etc. But to accomplish daily goals you are best off with daily or weekly task lists. If daily task lists seem too daunting, start with weekly planning and then move on to daily lists once you develop the habit.
Step 5: Check Them off!
What’s the need to even get a checklist, if you can’t check the finished tasks off from the list? The relief that you feel after checking off the tasks that are completed will motivate you to move on to the next and do even better the next day.
