How to Use Induction Checklists

The induction of every new employee or staff member is a momentous, painstaking process. It is also very hard to do right without upping the stress factor. For obvious reasons, every consideration must be taken into account when admitting a new member to an organization.

The job, then, of an induction checklist is to

  • list the steps to take,
  • remind you when to take which steps and where,
  • track the steps taken, and
  • document the process.

Induction training is the time to establish the bases. Your inductee must be clear on all the foundational visions and philosophies, goals, and objectives, as well as the expectations of the company and their individual responsibilities within it.

A good Training Checklist will necessarily address these aspects to the new employee:

  • Introduction to the company, its mission and vision
  • The company culture (core values, employee treatment, day-to-day flow)
  • The staff hierarchy (introductions to colleagues and leaders)
  • The company expectations of its staff (very important to get this articulated up front)
  • The company system, its setup, key policies, work flow, procedures, etc. (also includes how the employee will be trained over the next few days, weeks, or months)

Don’t get bogged down with the details, and don’t let it be unnecessarily hectic and stressful. This list of free-to-download, easy-to-use PDF and MS Word Checklist samples may just be your saving grace.
