Benefits of Having a Great Resume

We all know for a fact what a resume is supposed to do. Have you really considered what it takes to have an effective and great resume? When we say “great” that means your resume is well-written, it summarizes all your relevant job experience(s) and educational attainment, and so on.

The first round of selecting potential applicants is during the time you hand out your resume to a prospective employer. With this, applicants may be excluded or included based on what is written in their resume. An applicant who is able to market himself in the best way possible is the one that will get selected. You don’t even have to overstate your resume.

You must simply create a resume that holds all of the vital and relevant information and make sure that it is perfectly formatted. Describe your goal, choose appropriate keywords, and list your skills and qualifications that will tailor to the job. Social work resumes, for example, need only indicate information related to social work.

A great resume will make you stand out as the creme of the crop, and get you that job that you’ve been vying for.

Types of Resumes that are Widely Use

These are the widely used resume types that showcase your skills, education, and experiences in a different yet in a proper way. Check them out.

Chronological Resume

This is a type of resume that lists all your relevant work history, starting with the most recent position. Below is where you will list your other jobs that should be written in a reverse chronological order.

Most employers prefer this type since it is easier to detect what jobs you have in the past and when you have worked at them. Not to mention that this is also the most common type of resume.

Functional Resume

This resume is intended to highlight your skills and experience(s), instead of your chronological work history. So rather than putting a “work history” at the top of the resume, you may change it to “professional experience” or “accomplishments” section in which it lists several skills that you have gained through the years. As an example, warehouse work resumes are structured so that they highlight the skills that can be used in a warehousing type of job.

If you are switching careers or you have gaps in your employment history, this resume is ideal for you.

Combination Resume

This is a type of resume that combines both a functional and chronological resume. The applicant’s skills and qualifications are listed at the top portion of the resume. Below it is where the chronological list of work history is written.

This resume does not focus on an applicant’s work history and often does not take up much space on the page. This type of resume allows you to focus on the things that makes you fit for the job while providing all details that an employer wants.

Tips for an Effective Resume Writing

Considering that employers faced hundreds of written resumes on their desk almost regularly, it pays a lot to give them a bit of attraction, an attraction that can benefit you as well. Time to step up your usual way of constructing your resume. We have here tips on writing professional work resumes effectively.

  • You need to format your resume in a wise manner. Regardless if you have a tremendous resume, it won’t get a thorough reading the first time. Resumes often scanned for about 30 seconds or less. This part can be hard to achieve if it’s difficult to read, poorly arranged, and contains nonsense information.
  • Instead of job descriptions, determine achievements. Most employers seek for candidates that can help them solve a problem or can be a good asset for their company.  The best work resumes follow this particular rule.
  • State your accomplishments accordingly. Always remember that your resume is a marketing tool that aims in promoting your skills and strengths.
  • Your resume should cater to the industry you’re aiming. Make sure your resume contains information that will cater to the needs of a certain industry you are planning to apply. In this, potential employers can see if you are the best fit for the position.
