What Is a Termination Notice?
As an official written notification, a termination notice must provide the information needed why an employee, a tenant, or any individual is subject for termination. You may use our Lease Termination Template and Eviction Notice Template for the specific function that they are intended for.
A termination notice gives the person who will be terminated a couple of days or more to be able to prepare for the said termination. Varying on situations, some terminations can actually be applied and practiced on the same day that it was given.
Reasons for termination vary, and the following are two of the most common:
- For employees. An employee can be terminated due to improper behavior during working hours. It can also be because of tardiness issues, insubordination, and causing damage to business property.
- For tenants. A tenant can be evicted from an apartment or serviced residence should he or she be unable to follow the rules and regulations that have been given prior to the duration of the stay. It may also be because of unsettled rental payments or a series of warnings that appears to have been disregarded.

A notice of termination must include the following:
- The name of the firm, company, or residence that decided the termination to occur. For an employee, it is usually the human resource department that curates a notice of termination. You may take a look at our HR Notice Template for another sample of a notice done by the human resources.
- The name of the person who will be terminated.
- The reasons, terms, and grounds for termination.
- The date when the notice of termination was made.
- The effective date of the termination.
It is not always due to bad reasons a notice of termination is given. Samples of this instance are as follows:
- If an employee is not a regular worker of a company and is only hired for a project-based job function. A notice of termination may indicate that a specific project is almost done and his or her services are not needed anymore on the given time period.
- A tenant who has signed for only a specific number of days, weeks, or months may be given a notice of termination usually a week or two before his or her initially given final date of stay.
