What Is Photography?
Photography is the science, art, and application of creating vivid images by recording light or other electromagnetic radiation, either electronically by means of an image sensor or chemically with the use of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film. Generally, a lens is used to focus reflected from objects into a real image on the light-sensitive surface inside a camera during a timed display.
A Look Back in the Past
Photography’s history has roots in remote antiquity with the discovery of two decisive principles—camera obscura (darkened room or chamber) and the fact that some elements are clearly changed by exposure to light as discovered by observation. Nobody thought of combining these two developments together to capture camera images in permanent form until around 1800 when Thomas Wedgwood created the first reliable document; however, the attempt was unsuccessful.
The word photography derived from the Greek word photos (“light”) and graphein (“to draw”) was first used in the 1830s. Historically, all photography was monochrome, or black and white. This color of photography continued to dominate for decades even after color film was readily applicable because of its inexpensive cost and its classic photographic look.

The Benefits of Photography
Through photography, you can capture those precious moments, capture breathtaking and mind-blowing scenes that you can keep and treasure forever. It is not just a great expression of art but can also do good to us. Here are a few reasons we believe why photography is therapeutic:
- Motivates you to go outside and get connected with nature
- Changes your perspective as you can see the world differently and you’ll start seeking and finding beauty in the world
- Acts as a nonverbal communication which can greatly help when dealing with issues like depression and anxiety
- Helps you to focus externally instead of getting caught up in the ideas racing through your mind
Photos from the past can also provide dynamic and powerful wisdom and memos as you continue throughout life and how you change and grow as an individual.
