Elements of the Vintage Style

Aside from the old-fashioned look, vintage patterns in Photoshop leans more into the modern retro style which is the result of making old trends become new again. Here, we discuss the elements that make up the vintage style with more authenticity and attention to detail.

  • Flat design. It refers to the use of simple shapes and lines to recreate an image in a minimalist way. Flat design is the most basic, simple, and two-dimensional representation of an object.
  • Line patterns. Simple line patterns arranged in a simple and almost neat manner also make up this style. Geometric shapes, waves, and dots are good examples of the elements of the vintage theme.
  • Bright colors. Colors in bright hues are quite popular in the eighties and nineties, and it’s one way to identify this style. Since high-definition images do not exist yet in these times, you could expect less saturated colors.
  • Bold typography. Along with the rise of graphic design in the midcentury is the rise of typography. Bold letters and even accurate spacing between letter combinations characterize a vintage look.
  • Simplicity. Legibility and objectivity were the leading principles of the development of graphic design in the middle of the past century. It includes sans-serif typefaces, grids, and asymmetrical layouts.

The Advantages of Using Vector Graphics

There are two basic types of electronic image files: vector graphics and raster graphics. This page presents these images in vector for the following advantages.

  • Smaller in file size. Vector images translate into a much smaller file size compared to larger raster images as they are created from points, lines, shapes and curves that are derived from mathematical formulas, while the other does not depend on the dimensions of the object.
  • Higher zoom quality. When zooming in the image, vector images remain smooth and lines and curves need not get wider proportionally. On the other hand, irregular curves in raster images may be proportionally wider when zoomed in.
  • Modification ability. The parameters of images made with vector graphics are stored so it can be later modified. This is because the dimensions of vector images are independent units and moving scaling, rotating, and filling do not degrade the quality of the image.
  • More realistic. Rendering shadows from a 3D perspective are much more realistic with vector graphics. Shadows can be abstracted into the rays of light from which they are formed, therefore allowing lifelike images and renderings.
