We can’t all be Elon Musk whose quirk and soft skills are always unquestionably fitting for SpaceX and Tesla. But who says we can’t apply his goal-setting strategies, especially when things don’t go as planned? And while a personal planner is far from the modern ways of doing things, even Musk would approve that it’s not a bad place to start if you want to effectively manage your tasks and be more productive in all aspects of your life.

5 Steps to Keep a Personal Planner
Step 1: Prioritize.
Multitasking doesn’t necessarily mean accomplishing everything all at once. Have a dozen things to do? Create a list and write your tasks by order of priority. Prioritizing helps you identify which tasks are most important and which ones can be left for later. Knowing how to prioritize also lets you break down your workload into manageable chunks.
Step 2: Set deadlines.
So you’ve written down your plans. Now comes one of the most challenging parts, because you need to give yourself a deadline for accomplishing them. This isn’t always easy and can sometimes be really frustrating when you can’t keep to your simple schedule. But setting deadlines is important in managing your tasks one by one and completing them.
Step 3: Accept the challenge.
Challenge is and will always be part of the process. If you’re resolved to thinking that something easy is hard, then you’re most likely to fail before you even start. If you set proper expectations such as welcoming the difficulty of a task, you may still falter. However, you’ll be able to work out on any issues better.
Step 4: Be resilient.
Take the time to figure out what you really want to accomplish. The phrase “try and try until you succeed,” may be schoolchildren’s talk but there’s no harm in taking heed if it means you’ll get there in the end. So what if you end up plotting the same goal over and over again? That just means you have more determination and can welcome failures more than most.
Step 5: Keep everything in one place.
If you’re the type who scribbles on any paper you can get your hands on, that habit is quite hard to break but pretty manageable. Having multiple notes and reminders everywhere will result in a cluttered schedule. Make sure to transfer everything into your actual planner and see which ones are good for checking off or are already done.
