What Is a Logo?
A simple logo is a symbol that is helpful in promoting public identification and recognition which is adopted by entities to identify their own products and services. It can be further categorized as follows or used in combination: ideographs, which are freeform images that can be entirely an abstract; pictographs, which are symbolic, representational images; and logotypes, which are simple, textual representations of the entity, for example, just the company initials.
How to Create a Simple Logo
Designing a simple logo can vary from one logo maker to another, but with the help of these few steps, even those without a background in logo design creation can easily follow the process.
1. Know the Field or Industry
Before you put your pen on the paper, it is best that you first get a sense of the environment the logo is going to live in so you will know the trends and the appropriate graphics to incorporate. From there, you can start building logo ideas that are suitable for the organization that you are working with.
2. Know the Client and the Target Audience
Now that you have a solid understanding of the field or industry of the organization that needs your logo design, it is time that you get the best possible understanding of what the client does as well as its target market or audience. Firstly, you need to know what they do, what they think about themselves, and for whom are their services or products. Then, capture the essence of that company by translating the idea into something concrete. In this process, you must make sure that your logo is different and unique from the other competitors of the same industry, and that it clearly represents the characteristics or personality of the company.
3. Present the Initial Design
Then, this is the time that you put into paper your initial ideas from the information that you have gathered. You can present two to three designs so they have several logo design options to choose from. It is best that you do not go beyond that number or else you will have a lot of revisions on your ideas, which entails a lot of work and a much higher bill.
4. Revise, Revise, Revise
You must not expect that your initial design will immediately be accepted by the client. Revisions can range from only one little tweak to a series of longer intricate revisions. However, although it is acceptable that you can revise your work, you must specify in your contract with the client the number of revisions that you are willing to do. Any more than that will incur an additional payment. This is important so that the client will be more thoughtful about each revision request.
5. Finalize the Design
Lastly, when the client is satisfied with the design, polish the design, finalize the logo, and send the output as well as the drafts or sketch, revisions, files in different formats, etc. so they can now use it as their business logo and company logo.
