What Is an ID Card?
An ID (short for identification) card is a document primarily used as proof of a person's identity. It bears the name, address, signature, photo, and other pertinent data analyses that are relevant to a specific individual. An ID card is used to verify your identification in every setting, i.e., bank transactions, school enrollments, government benefits, credit card payments, airport security, and even in offices and businesses.
How to Make a Simple ID Card?
If you want to make a simple ID card that projects the impression of a professional and a minimalist, here are few steps to guide you in designing your own:
1. Plan Your Design
An ID card's primary purpose is identification. It may be helpful to make it look colorful, but going simple is practical mainly if the ID is official, meaning ones that are issued by legitimate and authorized agencies. You would want your fonts readable, your photos visible and signatures are intelligible. The standard size of an ID card is 3.375″ x 2.125″, which is the same as that of a credit card. If you are not familiar with the process of making an ID, then you can download a ready-made template for convenience. There are printable blank ID cards that have different professional designs that are creative and modern that will suit you best.
A lot of IDs now are multi-purpose. School IDs have barcodes that could be swiped to enter various areas in the vicinity and access even school buses. Employee IDs have systems that are really security tight. Visitor IDs have numbers, so it will be easier to trace people who go in and out of any establishments. Think not only about the design but how your ID can be used in more ways than one.
3. Put Down Necessary Information
Your ID should contain all the essential data like your complete name, signature, school, employee or national ID number, and the logo of the issuing body (school, government agency, business establishment) which you can place in front of the card, making it visible and easy to identify. If you want to put something at the back of the card, make it minimal as you can, like the name of an emergency person to contact in case anything happens and a phone number or identifying marks like hair color, weight, eye color. Remember not to put anything that can jeopardize security.
An ideal ID photo measures about 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm, similar to passport size IDs. However, you can make it smaller or larger depending on your requirements. Your printable ID photos should be clear, and if there are any identifying marks like moles or scars, it should be visible. Use a white background and wear no accessories like glasses, contact lenses, or anything of the sort that will cover facial appearance. Have the photos taken in the present and nothing that dates years ago to avoid identity confusion.
5. Terms and Conditions
If you go a minimum, then your ID may contain only the essentials and nothing less. However, you can put any terms and conditions at the back of the ID if there were nothing else you would have put there. State the validity, if it is non-transferable or where to return lost ID.
Finally, after you've set down the design added with any identity or security settings, putting the data and going through double-checking, it's time to print. For best results, an Inkjet Printer works well for all kinds of ID, even the PVC ones.
